My name is Walter McKenzie and I’m a career educator, innovator and leader in association work.
My mission is to engage members to fully connect into their organizations and contribute to a thriving, vibrant future. Since the beginning of my career, I have worked to empower educators to reach their full potential, building their capacity through connections.
Today’s professional organizations are transforming as you read this, redefining the value of membership. The benefits of this shift are many, as new ways to plug into member organizations help them to become more relevant, agile and resilient in meeting the needs of professionals throughout their careers. Through my three decades of work in public education and nonprofit association work, I have learned to meet these challenges, coming to understand the potential impact of engaging educators in their important work. From teacher, instructional leader and assistant superintendent in Arlington, Virginia public schools to strategic advisor, director and now senior director at ASCD, I encounter neverending opportunities to elevate the profession and while redefining relevance for today's professionals.
I love my work! There is nothing like making a difference for educators and the children they serve. It is an honor to elevate the profession working with like-minded professionals who have their eye on the future!
